Aston Martin Focuses on Long-Term Development Amidst Disappointing Start to 2025 Season
Aston Martin has acknowledged a challenging start to the 2025 Formula 1 season, stating it is "not a happy camp." Currently sitting seventh in the Constructors’ Championship with only 10 points, all secured by Lance Stroll, the team faces a tight midfield battle as it heads into the Miami Grand Prix this weekend.
Team principal Andy Cowell emphasized a strategic mindset, indicating that the team is using this season to gather critical data rather than seeking immediate fixes for its underperforming 2025 car. "We’re investing heavily in next year and in understanding what we’ve got," Cowell stated. He highlighted the importance of mastering new tools in their upgraded Silverstone facility, particularly in preparation for the upcoming 2026 technical regulations.
Despite the lack of early-season success—two-time champion Fernando Alonso remains scoreless—Cowell remains optimistic. "The difference from front to back is not so great… but we always want to be at the front," he said. The team is prioritizing data collection over race points, focusing on aligning simulation and wind tunnel insights with on-track performance.
Aston Martin’s approach includes experimenting with car setups during Friday practice sessions, aiming for a broader understanding of vehicle dynamics and performance. Cowell concluded, "We’re using every single race as an opportunity to say: ‘How do we gather more data?’" This philosophy aims to ensure that the team emerges stronger and more competitive in future seasons.
