Brawn GP Chassis Auctioned at Miami Grand Prix
Miami, FL — A significant piece of motorsport history is set to be auctioned at the Miami Grand Prix this weekend as Bonhams presents the iconic Brawn GP chassis 001/01. This car is one of only three Formula 1 world championship-winning vehicles from the 2009 season, which saw Brawn rise from the remnants of Honda to claim both the constructors’ and drivers’ titles, with Jenson Button at the helm.
The chassis is estimated to sell for between $4.5 million and $6.5 million, making it a centerpiece of the automotive auction scheduled for Saturday evening in front of the Miami podium at Hard Rock Stadium.
“This car represents the ultimate Formula 1 fairy tale—a revolutionary design that redefined what was possible,” said Louis Frankel, head of sales at Bonhams|Cars. “Chassis 001/01 is a piece of motorsport history, and its offering is sure to captivate collectors worldwide.”
In 2009, Button and teammate Rubens Barrichello shocked the paddock, with Button winning six of the first seven races. Barrichello added two victories, helping to secure Brawn’s championship despite increasing competition throughout the season.
Tyler Epp, president of the Miami Grand Prix, remarked, “We are excited to continue our partnership with Bonhams|Cars. There is a strong car culture in South Florida, and for enthusiasts to have the opportunity to own such a historic piece will enhance the weekend’s events.”
The auction will feature 38 cars, alongside a selection of Formula 1 memorabilia including race-worn helmets and overalls from legends like Lewis Hamilton, Nigel Mansell, and a helmet worn by Michael Schumacher estimated between $30,000 and $50,000.
The auction, positioned within a vibrant weekend of motorsport action, reflects the deep-rooted car culture in Miami and the event’s significance in celebrating automotive excellence.
