Alpine Confirms Doohan Will Drive at Imola Amid Colapinto Speculation
Imola, Italy – In a decisive statement, Oliver Oakes, team principal of Alpine F1, affirmed that Jack Doohan will retain his seat for the upcoming Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. This announcement comes amidst swirling rumors suggesting Franco Colapinto might take over the driver’s position.
Colapinto, who serves as Alpine’s reserve driver after a nine-race stint with Williams last season, has been the subject of speculation since Oakes’ initial comments about team decisions. The situation escalated when Horacio Marín, CEO of Argentina’s YPF, indicated in a television interview that he expected Colapinto to make his debut in Imola—a claim he later clarified as a personal hope rather than a confirmed decision.
Oakes addressed these rumors during the Miami Grand Prix press conference, noting, "Today, it is the case that Jack is our driver." He characterized the speculation regarding Doohan’s performance relative to teammate Pierre Gasly as a natural aspect of the sport, insisting that the team remains committed to its current lineup.
"We’ve been pretty clear about that," Oakes added. "Jack needs to continue doing a good job, but obviously, there’s always that speculation."
As Alpine prepares for the Imola event, Oakes’s remarks signal a ongoing commitment to Doohan, who is under pressure to deliver results consistent with Gasly’s performance. The team will undoubtedly monitor the situation closely as the season progresses.
