Team WRT Unveils New Headquarters, Prepares for 6 Hours of Spa
Liege, Belgium – This week marked a pivotal moment for Team WRT as they inaugurated their new multi-story headquarters in Liege, underscoring their ambition within the motorsport realm. Co-founder Vincent Vosse declared, “The previous chapter is over and we start again. Can you imagine not winning from here?”
The new facility spans over 20,000 square meters, consolidating all racing and manufacturing operations under one roof. Following the completion of this significant project, the team’s focus shifts to the upcoming 6 Hours of Spa, where the BMW M Hybrid V8 seeks its inaugural overall victory in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) after a second-place finish at Imola.
However, adjustments to the Balance of Performance (BoP) may present challenges. The M Hybrid V8 will carry an additional 7 kilograms and face a reduction of 10 kW in maximum power. Rene Rast, driver of the No. 20, acknowledged the difficulties, stating, “Last time we were clearly not the fastest car — Ferrari were faster. We made the best of our package.”
Despite the challenges, the atmosphere around the WRT program has noticeably improved over the past year. The introduction of the Evo Joker braking system has enhanced the car’s drivability, as articulated by driver Raffaele Marciello: “Everyone feels more confident in the car… it’s just easier to control. The balance is the same, but you get more feedback.”
The team’s driver lineup has been adjusted from six to four for the Spa event, with Dries Vanthoor unavailable due to IMSA commitments at Laguna Seca. Marciello and Kevin Magnussen will handle the No. 15 entry, while Robin Frijns and Rast share the No. 20.
Marciello expressed confidence in stepping up without Vanthoor, humorously adding, “If we do well, then we don’t want him back!”
As WRT prepares for their home race at Spa, Rast emphasized their competitive approach: “We want to win the championship, but for us, it’s about maximizing every race. If we can win here, we will push for it.”
Team WRT’s new headquarters and strategic improvements signal their readiness to contend vigorously in the upcoming race and beyond.
