Ford’s 2026 Partnership with Red Bull: Key Updates and Insights
As preparations intensify for the 2026 Formula 1 season, Ford’s partnership with Red Bull Powertrains is progressing, with Ford Motorsport head Mark Rushbrook indicating that internal targets are mostly being achieved. However, he noted the unpredictability of competition, particularly highlighting Mercedes’ confidence.
The future of Max Verstappen, currently under contract with Red Bull until 2028, remains a focal point. Despite speculation linking him to both Mercedes and Aston Martin—especially given Adrian Newey’s involvement with Aston Martin’s 2026 project—Rushbrook emphasizes that Ford’s commitment to Red Bull is not contingent upon any single driver.
"We want the best team, best drivers, and the best people," said Rushbrook. "But did we sign the deal for any one person in particular? No. This is a long-term project."
Verstappen’s potential departure is a concern, but Rushbrook reframed it, stating, "While we’d like to keep Max, our commitment remains steadfast regardless of any individual."
Rushbrook reflected on Verstappen’s role in the team’s success, acknowledging, "He elevates the entire team." Yet, he reiterated Ford’s broader strategy, stating that the company seeks to partner with the best teams across all championships.
Addressing concerns about Red Bull’s competitive standing, Rushbrook remarked on the cyclical nature of performance in Formula 1 and reaffirmed confidence in the team: "There are periods of dominance followed by dry spells. We trust the team and their ability to win consistently."
Looking ahead, the impending overhaul of technical regulations for 2026—set to take place without Adrian Newey—poses challenges. Nevertheless, Rushbrook expressed faith in the current technical team’s capabilities.
"We met with Pierre Wache and the technical staff recently, and our belief in their ability to win races remains strong," he concluded.
This collaboration, therefore, remains rooted in strategic long-term vision for both Ford and Red Bull, poised to adapt and thrive in an evolving motorsport landscape.
