Ferrari Fined for Tyre Pressure Violation at Imola
Ferrari faced a €5,000 (£4,200) fine during the Imola Grand Prix for violating regulations concerning tyre pressures on Charles Leclerc’s car. The infringement occurred during Friday’s practice session when the team failed to adhere to the stringent limits set by Pirelli to ensure tyre safety.
The FIA stated, “The team representative admitted that these procedures were not followed, constituting a breach of Article 30.5 a) of the FIA Formula 1 sporting regulations.” As this breach took place during a practice session, the stewards deemed a €5,000 fine appropriate, consistent with previous similar penalties.
Leclerc expressed concerns about Ferrari’s competitiveness, admitting the team struggled to match McLaren’s pace, which saw them dominate the second practice session. “I feel like, honestly, the first row is going to be very difficult. The second row will already be a really good result for us,” Leclerc stated, indicating a grim outlook as he aims for a top-two qualification.
In the second practice session, Leclerc finished in sixth while teammate Lewis Hamilton, who narrowly avoided a collision in FP1, concluded the session in 11th place. Both drivers are currently focusing on maximizing their performance ahead of the race, with hopes for a better result than predicted.
