Adrian Newey Joins Aston Martin, Leaving a Legacy at Red Bull

In a significant shift within the Formula 1 landscape, Adrian Newey has officially departed from Red Bull Racing after nearly 20 years, during which he secured six Constructors’ Championships and eight Drivers’ Championships. He has been appointed as Managing Technical Partner at Aston Martin, aiming to revitalize the struggling team.

In a candid interview with Sky Sports F1, Newey shared that he initially faced uncertainty about his next steps following his resignation from Red Bull. "I resigned from Red Bull for a whole host of reasons, and genuinely at that point had no idea what I was going to do next," he revealed. Discussions with his wife, Mandy, varied from retirement to potential road car projects, but ultimately led him back into the competitive arena of motorsport.

Newey has a rich background in both Formula 1 and road car development, notably on projects like the Aston Martin Valkyrie and the RB17. He emphasized the thrill of combining "man and machine" in high-stakes competition, contrasting it with sectors where feedback is scarce, such as aerospace.

He also acknowledged a long-standing interest in the America’s Cup, remarking on its technological parallels to Formula 1. "Technologies are all very similar," he stated, but noted the challenge of limited opportunities for design revisions within the timeline of boat competitions.

Newey’s transition to Aston Martin aligns him with a robust infrastructure and a talented driver lineup, including two-time champion Fernando Alonso. He made his on-track debut with the team at the Monaco Grand Prix, marking the beginning of a new chapter in both his career and the future of Aston Martin F1.
