Alpine and FIA Condemn Online Abuse Against Tsunoda Following Imola Incident

The Alpine Formula 1 team and the FIA have issued strong statements condemning the online abuse directed at Yuki Tsunoda after a practice incident with Franco Colapinto during the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix at Imola. The incident, which involved Colapinto impeding multiple drivers during the first practice session, escalated when Tsunoda expressed visible frustration at being blocked.

While the clash was a minor incident typical of practice sessions, a section of Argentinian fans responded with abusive comments, some of which were racially charged. In response, Colapinto acknowledged Tsunoda’s anger, stating it was justified, and urged his supporters to show respect toward all drivers.

Alpine’s official statement emphasized the need for kindness, urging fans to remember the humanity behind the racing helmets. "As a team, we cannot condone online abuse," it read. FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem also weighed in, stating, "Motorsport is built on competition, passion, and commitment… that passion should unite us, not foster hate."

The situation further highlighted the broader issue of online harassment in motorsport, with Alpine reserve driver Jack Doohan also facing harassment, including false representations about his family. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the responsibilities fans hold in maintaining a respectful community within motorsport.

Both Alpine and the FIA continue to advocate for a culture of respect and understanding among fans, marking a critical stand against online abuse in the high-stakes world of motorsport.
