Alpine F1 Team Faces Leadership Turmoil Amid Performance Struggles

Nico Rosberg has provided insights into the ongoing challenges faced by Alpine F1, which currently sits at the bottom of the Constructors’ Championship with just 11 points. The team’s struggles coincide with significant leadership changes, the latest being the departure of CEO Luca de Meo, effective July 15.

During a recent episode of the Sky Sports F1 Show podcast, Rosberg compared Alpine’s situation to his time at Mercedes, emphasizing the detrimental impact of instability on performance. “We know how important stability is for the performance of a team,” he stated. “Alpine’s changes mirror issues we’ve seen at Ferrari, where rapid leadership shifts have hindered consistency.”

Rosberg articulated concerns about the brand’s perception, describing subpar results as "anti-marketing." He recalled times at Mercedes where underperformance brought the risk of budget cuts, particularly in marketing efforts related to F1.

“The first thing that you cut is the marketing budget,” he noted, stressing that the team’s future visibility in Formula 1 will rely heavily on the new leadership’s stance on the sport amid a turbulent automotive market.

Rosberg also highlighted broader industry trends, particularly the pressure from electric vehicle competitors and Tesla’s encroaching market share, suggesting these factors could further complicate the team’s prospects for recovery.

With uncertainty surrounding its direction, Alpine must address both performance and leadership coherence to regain competitiveness in the 2023 F1 season.
