Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion: Celebrating 75 Years of Formula 1
WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, August 13-17, 2024 – The upcoming Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion is set to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Formula 1 with an impressive assembly of grand prix cars that have shaped the sport since its inception in 1950.
The event will feature a dedicated F1 anniversary paddock display situated behind Turn 3, showcasing over a dozen iconic F1 vehicles. In addition, a special exhibition group will participate in the Mario Andretti Trophy races, covering cars from 1966-1985 on the renowned 2.3-mile circuit.
Among the notable entries, Honda and Williams will present the 1986 FW11 driven by Nigel Mansell, which featured a formidable 1.5-liter twin-turbo V6 engine capable of producing over 1000 horsepower. The display underlines F1’s evolution, with highlights including historical models such as the 1956 Maserati 250F and the 1974 McLaren M23.
Jenson Button, the 2009 F1 world champion, will serve as grand marshal for the event, enhancing its prestige and historical significance.
Featured Cars in the Exhibition
- 1956 Maserati 250F – Stirling Moss’s Italian GP-winning car.
- 1962 Porsche 804 – The only F1 win for Porsche, executed by Dan Gurney at the French GP.
- 1964 BRM P-261 – Graham Hill’s dual victories at Watkins Glen and Monaco.
- 1965 Honda RA272 – Richie Ginther’s first win for Honda and Goodyear.
- 1967 Lotus Type 49 – Jim Clark’s formidable 1967 season with significant wins.
Additional notable vehicles spanning from the 1978 Lotus Type 79 to the 2024 McLaren MCL38/02, which secured three victories and the constructors’ championship this year, will also be on display.
