Dutch Grand Prix: Aston Martin Drivers Eye Qualifying Success Amid Challenges

At the Dutch Grand Prix, Aston Martin drivers Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso remain optimistic about competing for the title of “best of the rest” behind McLaren, despite a setback during practice. Stroll’s session was cut short after he crashed heavily at Turn 3 during FP2, locking up and colliding with the barrier, which resulted in red flags.

Stroll reported no injuries post-crash. “Just a little lock up, and then from there I was just a passenger. So yeah, just one of those things,” he stated, remaining positive about the team’s overall performance. Following the incident, he noted that Alonso’s strong second-fastest lap in practice indicates potential for a competitive qualifying effort. “For sure, it looks like [the first few rows are in reach],” Stroll added.

Both drivers showcased their pace in FP1, finishing third and fourth fastest, trailing only the two McLaren drivers. Alonso expressed an optimistic outlook, especially after a solid performance in Hungary, where he finished fifth. “We know it’s only free practice, but it’s good to see our times up there,” said Alonso, while also acknowledging their position relative to front-running teams like Mercedes, Ferrari, and Red Bull.

Alonso emphasized the importance of understanding and optimizing Aston Martin’s recent upgrades. “This year, unfortunately, we are not fighting for big, big things,” he said. “The main focus for the rest of the season is to ensure that what we do in the factory translates to the track. Everything that we’ve brought to the track is working as expected.”

Both drivers are looking forward to qualifying, hoping to build on the momentum they’ve established in practice and continue their trend of improvement as the season progresses.
