Oliver Bearman Faces Severe Penalty for Red Flag Violation in FP3 at British Grand Prix

Oliver Bearman has received a significant ten-place grid penalty for the upcoming British Grand Prix following a reckless incident during Free Practice 3 (FP3) that occurred under red flag conditions. The incident, triggered by Gabriel Bortoleto’s crash at Becketts, led Bearman to lose control of his car while attempting to accelerate back to the pit lane.

While Bortoleto’s car remained lodged in the gravel, Bearman misjudged the situation, accelerating to racing speeds despite the conditions. As he approached the pit entry at a speed of 260 km/h, he lost control due to cold brakes, resulting in a crash that damaged the front wing and nose of his vehicle.

The stewards reviewed the incident and stated, “Car 87 had slowed down for the red flag and then significantly accelerated… He lost control… and crashed into the barriers.” The ruling emphasized Bearman’s failure to adhere to Article 37.6 (a) of the Formula One Sporting Regulations, which mandates that "all cars must immediately reduce speed and proceed slowly back to the pit lane" when a red flag is displayed.

Additionally, Bearman received four penalty points on his license, bringing his total to eight within the last 12 months. According to race regulations, he is now four points shy of a race ban. Notably, he will not lose any points until November 3, when two points from a past incident in Brazil will be waived.

With the British Grand Prix on the horizon, the implications of this penalty are substantial for Bearman, placing him at risk of further sanctions if he does not alter his approach on track.
