Alpine’s Bold Ambitions: Briatore Sets Win Targets for 2026
Flavio Briatore, the controversial figure in Formula 1, has asserted that Alpine must have “no excuses” for not aiming for victories by 2026 and competing for titles by 2027. As Alpine’s executive advisor, he has taken on expanded responsibilities following Oliver Oakes’ departure as team principal earlier this month.
This season has been challenging for Alpine, which currently sits with a mere seven points. In a significant team shake-up, Alpine replaced Jack Doohan with Franco Colapinto following the Miami Grand Prix. Looking towards the future, Briatore expressed confidence in the team’s potential under the impending regulatory changes: “In 2026, we can win races, I guarantee it. We must be competitive.”
Briatore also indicated that the key to their resurgence hinges on the upcoming switch to Mercedes power after Renault’s exit from F1 at the end of 2025. “Choosing to switch to Mercedes power was a very difficult decision, but in this sport, to win, you need to have the same tools as the others.”
Having previously led the Enstone team to three Constructors’ Championships, Briatore’s influence is expected to play a pivotal role in Alpine’s future strategy. While he is currently not in a position to officially hold the title of team principal, he stated, “I’m now 100% committed and surrounded by a very strong team across all departments.”
With a firm commitment to reclaim Alpine’s competitive edge, Briatore eloquently captures the urgency: “We’re in this sport to win.” His focus on the upcoming regulatory shifts and power unit transition may position Alpine for a significant turnaround as they prepare for 2026.
