Brad Pitt Prepares for Formula 1 Role with Rigorous Training Regimen

Hollywood actor Brad Pitt has dedicated extensive time and effort to embody the character of Sonny Hayes, a former Formula 1 driver, in the upcoming film "F1." Producer Jerry Bruckheimer revealed that Pitt underwent rigorous training over several months, learning to handle high-performance racing cars.

In an interview with TODAY, Bruckheimer emphasized the commitment of both Pitt and co-star Damson Idris, stating, "He [Brad Pitt] works hard, you know—it doesn’t come easy. He trained for three months to be able to get in these cars." Both actors progressed through a training schedule that began with Formula 4 vehicles and culminated in Mercedes-developed Formula 2 machinery.

The training took place at Circuit Paul Ricard in France, an ideal location for novice drivers due to its broad run-off areas. Pitt reportedly drove approximately 6,000 miles across various vehicle classes during this preparation. “We started him in a road car, then we went into an F4 car, then an F3 car, and finally into our car, which has an F2 engine with an F1 body,” Bruckheimer explained.

Reflecting on the experience, Pitt shared, “I was told that we drove 6,000 miles in total in these cars, so I’m kinda proud of that.” Idris added, "Every time I was behind that wheel, it was the most exhilarating feeling in the world."

Lewis Hamilton, contributing as both a producer and consultant on the film, praised Pitt’s driving capabilities, noting, "Watching Brad drive around at speeds over 180 miles an hour was really impressive… The dedication and focus that Brad put into this process has been amazing to witness."

Bruckheimer disclosed that the completion of filming was bittersweet. “My happiest day was when he climbed out of the car for the last time in Abu Dhabi," he stated. "That was his unhappiest day because he loved it so much. He misses it."

"F1" is set for release on June 25 globally, with a U.S. premiere scheduled for two days later.
