Sergio Perez in Talks with Cadillac for F1 Contract

Miami, Florida – Sergio Perez, the six-time Grand Prix winner, is reportedly in negotiations for a three-year contract with the anticipated Cadillac Formula 1 team, set to debut in 2026. This comes after Perez concluded his stint with Red Bull, finishing a significant 285 points behind teammate and reigning champion Max Verstappen in the 2024 season.

While Cadillac emerges as a frontrunner, Perez is also exploring other options. He stated his intention to assess all potential opportunities over the next six months. Team principal Graeme Lowdon emphasized the strategic importance of securing experienced drivers, hinting at Perez’s 281 Grand Prix starts as a valuable asset.

“We’re fortunate to have good drivers available to us,” said Lowdon. “Our discussions are ongoing, and while our timeline is less defined due to our new entry, we’re in touch with several capable candidates.”

As the Miami Grand Prix approaches, Cadillac plans to launch its promotional event in the city. Perez aims to finalize his decision this month, with speculation regarding his teammate still open, though potential American drivers have been mentioned in context with Cadillac’s identity.

Lowdon addressed the merit-based selection for drivers, leaving the door open for American talent but confirming, “We will not compromise on merit. The team is committed to establishing itself firmly in F1.”

Cadillac’s driver lineup remains a work in progress, and with the current climate of available talent, a strong foundation for the future looks promising. As negotiations unfold, fans and analysts alike are watching closely for developments in a pivotal moment for both Perez and the new team.
