Carlos Sainz: Building a Future with Williams

In a recent interview, Carlos Sainz reflected on his transition to Williams after four years with Ferrari, expressing optimism for the team’s potential and his role in its revival.

Sainz emphasizes that he feels stable and motivated within the Williams environment, stating, "I’m now in a team with a long-term project that really motivates me." He acknowledges the challenges of adapting to a new team, having navigated multiple transitions throughout his career.

When asked about his decision to join Williams, Sainz noted, "I evaluated everything very carefully. If I can’t join a top team, I’ll help build one." His conversations with team principal James Vowles convinced him of the significant possibilities at Williams.

Sainz is aware that integrating into a new team involves a complex adjustment process. "There are dozens of little things that vary from team to team," he explained, citing aspects such as engine braking and tire management as critical to maximizing performance. He compared his experience to peers like Alex Albon and Charles Leclerc, highlighting the advantage of familiarity with their respective setups.

Reflecting on Williams’ early-season progress, Sainz expressed satisfaction, recalling his initial expectations were exceeded. "The step forward came sooner than I expected," he reported, indicating that collaboration with the engineering team has been fruitful.

Sainz discussed recent chassis changes made before the Suzuka weekend, clarifying it was a mutual decision aimed at addressing early-season racing issues. "I think it was more about setup changes that helped me drive better," he noted.

Regarding the timeline for Williams’ return to competitive standing, Sainz anticipates it will take longer than a year—but views the progress as promising. "It’s better to accept a few mistakes this season since we don’t yet have a car that allows us to fight for the biggest goals," he acknowledged.

Looking ahead, Sainz aims to contribute significantly, with aspirations of winning a championship with Williams within the next few years. "I’d like to win a world championship—to have enthusiasm, motivation, and put all of that into a shared vision," he stated.

With a fresh perspective and strong commitment, Sainz is set on harnessing his experience to help Williams rise through the ranks in Formula 1.
