George Russell Affirms Commitment to Mercedes Amid Verstappen Speculation

George Russell has emphasized his dedication to Mercedes, stating that the likelihood of not racing for the team in 2026 is "exceptionally low." His comments come in the wake of rumors linking Max Verstappen to a potential move from Red Bull to Mercedes, with reports suggesting talks have taken place.

At the recent Austrian Grand Prix, Russell acknowledged ongoing discussions but reaffirmed his loyalty to Mercedes. "There’s a lot of conversations behind the scenes that are not public, and I know where their loyalty lies," he stated. Russell pointed out that despite the speculative media coverage, his performance remains his priority: "I feel I’m performing better than ever, and performance speaks for everything."

Russell, who manages his career through Mercedes, indicated he has not entertained offers from rival teams, adding, "I am loyal to Mercedes, that’s where my future lies." He mentioned that while there has been interest from other teams, his focus remains on his current position.

Regarding timelines for a contract confirmation, Russell expressed a desire to have clarity before the August mid-season break, although he acknowledged that such decisions are ultimately out of his hands. "It’ll happen when the time is right. I expect probably in the next couple of weeks, probably something to happen," he predicted.

As the 2026 season approaches, Russell’s steadfast commitment to Mercedes and the potential reshuffling of top drivers in the paddock, including Verstappen, remains a significant story in the motorsports landscape.
