Austrian Grand Prix: Leclerc Secures Podium Amid Technical Challenges

Styria, Austria – Charles Leclerc earned a third-place finish in the Austrian Grand Prix on Sunday, but the Ferrari driver characterized his race as "boring" and highlighted several technical challenges faced during the event. The Monegasque lost crucial early ground to McLaren’s Oscar Piastri at the start, ultimately compromising his race pace.

“There weren’t many key moments on my side," Leclerc stated. "The start was crucial; I wish I had done better to be fully alongside Lando.” He noted that while his car’s performance improved over the latter stages of the race, he was forced to manage issues throughout, implementing a "lift and coast" strategy to reduce plank wear.

Both Leclerc and teammate Lewis Hamilton had been directed to conserve their cars after Ferrari faced a double disqualification in the Chinese Grand Prix earlier this season due to similar issues. Leclerc commented, “The lift and coast was a bit frustrating. We paid for it in the first stint, but the later stints were more positive.”

The Ferrari team introduced significant upgrades for this weekend’s race, including a new floor design, which Leclerc described as “definitely a step forward.” He expressed optimism about future developments, stating, “The team is pushing hard for more upgrades, which I hope will help us close the gap to McLaren and Red Bull.”

As Ferrari continues to address its performance issues, Leclerc’s podium finish represents a crucial point in the team’s ongoing development efforts amidst a challenging season.
