Alpine F1 Team Confirms Doohan’s Position Amid Colapinto Speculation
Miami, FL – Alpine Formula 1 team principal Oliver Oakes has quashed rumors regarding a potential driver change ahead of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, confirming that Jack Doohan will remain in the lineup. Speculation regarding a switch to reserve driver Franco Colapinto was fueled by recent comments from Horacio Marín, CEO of Argentina’s oil company YPF, who suggested during an off-air interview that Colapinto might debut at Imola.
Oakes stated, "Today, it is the case" that Doohan will drive for Alpine, emphasizing that the team is satisfied with their current driver lineup, including Pierre Gasly for the 2025 season. "Jack needs to continue doing a good job," he added, addressing the heightened speculation due to Doohan’s inconsistent performance compared to Gasly.
Marín later clarified his remarks, indicating that they were expressions of personal hope rather than official information: "How am I supposed to have the information if I’m not Colapinto’s representative?"
In the Friday press conference at the Miami Grand Prix, Oakes remarked on the speculative nature of Marín’s assertions, attributing them to enthusiasm from Argentine sponsors and fans.
In summary, Alpine reaffirms its commitment to Doohan for the upcoming race, shutting down speculation that could disrupt the team’s focus as they prepare for competition in Imola.
