Colapinto Uninjured After Crash During Pirelli Tire Testing at Hungaroring
Franco Colapinto was deemed "OK" following a crash during tire testing at the Hungaroring, as confirmed by his Alpine team. The incident occurred on the second day of a two-day test involving Pirelli, with Alpine alongside McLaren, Ferrari, and Racing Bulls.
Colapinto was driving in the morning session when a heavy crash at Turn 11, a 140mph right-hander, brought the session to a halt. A spectator photo captured the damaged vehicle positioned against the barrier, facing the wrong direction.
This year, Colapinto has participated in seven races for Alpine after replacing Jack Doohan six rounds into the season. Despite his efforts, neither he nor Doohan has scored points, remaining the only drivers without a top ten finish in the 2025 season to date.
The testing program focused on adapting test mules for the 2026 tire dimensions, which feature a 25mm reduction at the front and a 30mm reduction at the rear. Pirelli utilized prototypes of next year’s C3, C4, and C5 tire compounds during the first day of testing.
Alpine was the only team scheduled to complete both days of testing, with Paul Aron behind the wheel on Tuesday. Lando Norris drove for McLaren and Liam Lawson for Racing Bulls on the first day, while Charles Leclerc represented Ferrari on Wednesday.
