Stroll Withdraws from 2025 Spanish Grand Prix Amid Injury Concerns
Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll has officially withdrawn from the 2025 Spanish Grand Prix due to a wrist injury that has been troubling him for the past six weeks. Stroll, who qualified 14th, cited pain related to a procedure he underwent in 2023. The team confirmed he will undergo a medical procedure before focusing on his recovery.
"Over the course of the past six weeks, Lance has been experiencing pain in his hand and wrist, which his medical consultant believes is related to a prior procedure," stated Aston Martin.
Sky Sports F1 commentator David Croft provided further context during the broadcast, revealing reports of Stroll’s frustrated outburst in the garage, where he allegedly threw a helmet, causing damage. Croft emphasized that team principal Mike Krack would not tolerate such behavior and noted Stroll’s history of intense reactions.
Croft raised questions regarding the team’s management of Stroll’s injury. If the situation had been monitored for six weeks, Croft argued that reserve driver Felipe Drugovich should have been given practice time to prepare for the race.
"Given that Lance secured P7 in Q1, it’s evident he was fit enough to drive at some point during qualifying," Croft explained. "If his condition had been serious enough to withdraw, Drugovich should have had the opportunity to practice."
Looking ahead, Drugovich is expected to take the wheel at the upcoming Canadian Grand Prix should Stroll remain unfit. The situation raises concerns about communication and decision-making within the Aston Martin team leading into important upcoming races.
