Leclerc Struggles with Power Steering Issues at Silverstone

Silverstone, UK – Charles Leclerc experienced significant difficulties during qualifying for the Formula 1 British Grand Prix, ultimately securing a sixth-place start. The Ferrari driver expressed his frustration over apparent mechanical issues, later clarifying that these problems are linked to the power steering system, particularly in high-speed corners.

During qualifying, Leclerc voiced his frustrations on team radio due to a qualifying mishap. Post-qualifying, he categorized his challenges as "very specific" and distinct from balance or grip issues. "I cannot go into detail, I’m sorry," Leclerc stated, emphasizing that the issue only affects him at peak performance during qualifying laps, rather than in race conditions.

Ferrari Team Principal Fred Vasseur confirmed the mechanical concerns but maintained confidentiality regarding specifics. "It can be fixed, but it’s true that we are struggling with something," he noted.

Technical analysis suggests that the power steering problem may arise under the lateral G-forces exerted in fast corners like Silverstone’s Maggots-Becketts complex, impacting driver confidence and performance. This aligns with historical complaints from other drivers regarding power steering feedback affecting lap times.

Leclerc also mentioned upcoming upgrades aimed at resolving some of this year’s ongoing issues, indicating optimism for improvement: "We’ve got some upgrades coming which will cure some particular issues."

As Ferrari continues to address these technical limitations, they remain hopeful that solutions will enhance performance, particularly in future high-speed circuits such as Suzuka.
