Lando Norris Leads McLaren Charge in FP3

Lando Norris set a decisive tone during the final practice session for the Austrian Grand Prix, clocking a lap of 1m04.324s to establish himself as the frontrunner. The McLaren driver outpaced teammate Oscar Piastri by just over a tenth of a second, underscoring McLaren’s ongoing competitiveness at the Spielberg circuit.

The session commenced without congestion in the pit lane, allowing teams to capitalize on cooler morning temperatures that later increased as the session progressed. Despite the advantageous conditions, both Norris and Piastri encountered challenges; Norris ran wide on a couple of occasions, while Piastri narrowly avoided a spin at Turn 9.

Max Verstappen, the reigning champion, demonstrated his prowess, ending the session in third, only 0.210 seconds behind Norris. However, he too suffered a spin towards the conclusion of the practice. "We will need to push harder in qualifying," Verstappen acknowledged, indicating the proximity of the competition.

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc showed marked improvement, securing fourth place, followed closely by Lewis Hamilton in fifth. Mercedes drivers George Russell and Kimi Antonelli rounded out the top seven, with Lance Stroll slipping to eighth after an impressive FP2.
