British Grand Prix FP1: Hamilton on Top as Form Returns
In an impressive display during the opening practice session of the British Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton secured the fastest lap, reaffirming his dominance at Silverstone. The Mercedes driver clocked a time of 1m 26.892s, outpacing the competition, notably title contender Lando Norris of McLaren, who finished second.
Hamilton, a nine-time winner at this circuit, demonstrated his racing prowess as he continues to adjust to his recent move to Ferrari, which has yielded mixed results this season—albeit with a notable win in the Shanghai sprint race.
Norris edged out his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri for second place, while Charles Leclerc, driving for Ferrari, posted a solid fourth, hinting at a resurgence in performance following recent struggles. George Russell, also driving for Mercedes, settled for fifth after initially leading the session early on.
Reigning champion Max Verstappen finished the session in tenth position. He was closely followed by 17-year-old rookie Arvin Lindblad, who debuted with Red Bull and was just over half a second off Verstappen’s best time.
The session witnessed several significant moments, including Pierre Gasly spinning his Alpine without damage and rookie Gabriel Bortoleto experiencing a minor incident before continuing his efforts. Notably, Alpine loanee Paul Aron filled in for Nico Hulkenberg and finished 17th.
As the teams prepare for the qualifying sessions ahead, Hamilton’s early form suggests he may be a formidable contender as the weekend progresses.
