Norris Leads FP2 at British Grand Prix
In a competitive FP2 session at the British Grand Prix, Lando Norris of McLaren topped the time sheets, setting a best lap of 1m25.816s, four-tenths faster than Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc. The session, characterized by brisk winds and track temperatures stable at 38°C, saw Norris outpace both Ferrari drivers by a significant margin.
Lewis Hamilton initially led the session, clocking a 1m26.592s on medium tires during the opening runs. However, as teams shifted to qualifying simulations on the softer C4 tires, the order quickly changed. George Russell and teammate Andreas Kimi Antonelli posted competitive times, with Antonelli’s lap nearly two-tenths of a second faster than Russell’s, despite a snap through Club.
Leclerc responded with a competitive 1m26.202s but noted issues with the front-left tire that may have cost him precious time. This opened the door for Norris to leap to the top of the standings. Hamilton attempted to close the gap, recording a time 0.3s off Norris but was unable to join him in the 1m25s bracket.
Oscar Piastri finished fourth, just 0.47s behind Norris, narrowly ahead of defending champion Max Verstappen, who reported difficulties with his car’s front-end grip in high-speed corners.
The session saw Carlos Sainz encounter an early spin due to wind gusts, leading to a near-collision with Hamilton. Sainz was subsequently investigated for rejoining the track unsafely.
