British Grand Prix Qualifying Report

Silverstone, UK – Max Verstappen clinched an unexpected pole position for the British Grand Prix with a blistering final lap of 1:24.892, surpassing both McLaren drivers, Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris. The reigning world champion’s lap was a standout performance in a session where challenges were anticipated from Ferrari and home favorite Lewis Hamilton.

Piastri will start from the front row, despite a minor error in his final attempt that prevented him from improving his time. Norris secured third position, leading an all-British second row alongside George Russell, who qualified fourth for Mercedes. Hamilton, who had shown strong pace throughout the weekend, ended up fifth after struggling with a scrappy final sector, with Charles Leclerc of Ferrari starting alongside him in sixth.

Rookie drivers Andrea Kimi Antonelli and Oliver Bearman will both serve grid penalties, impacting their positions. Antonelli drops three places following his recent crash into Verstappen in Austria, while Bearman incurs a ten-place penalty for a red-flag infringement during FP3.

Fernando Alonso secured ninth place for Aston Martin, although he will start seventh due to the penalties applied to Antonelli and Bearman. Despite a strong showing in Q2, Ferrari faced pressure but managed to save a fresh set of tires, allowing both drivers to perform well under pressure.

Notably, Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon struggled to find competitive pace, finishing 11th and 14th, respectively. Yuki Tsunoda and Isack Hadjar also fell short, failing to advance past Q1. Franco Colapinto’s qualifying ended prematurely after he crashed in Q1, necessitating a red flag to retrieve his car.
