F1 Secures Long-Term Contract for Austrian Grand Prix at Red Bull Ring
Formula 1 has confirmed a new long-term contract for the Austrian Grand Prix, ensuring that the Red Bull Ring will remain on the calendar until 2041. This agreement positions the Red Bull Ring alongside the Miami Grand Prix as one of only two circuits with contracts extending into the 2040s, following Miami’s recent extension.
F1 has been trending towards securing extended agreements with circuits; Canada recently announced an extension through at least 2035.
F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali emphasized the track’s historical significance in the sport, stating, "Austria has long been an incredibly special race for Formula 1, so it’s fantastic we have secured the long-term future of a grand prix so deeply rooted in the sport’s history." He acknowledged the contributions of the late Dietrich Mateschitz, noting his vision and investment that revitalized the event.
Mark Mateschitz, son of Dietrich Mateschitz, expressed his pride in continuing his father’s legacy: "I am delighted that Formula 1 will remain at the Red Bull Ring for many years to come… Austria’s close ties to Formula 1 are an excellent foundation for our long-term partnership."
The Austrian Grand Prix has a storied history, first appearing in 1964 at Zeltweg Airfield and undergoing several transformations. After being held at the Osterreichring and the A1-Ring, the venue was purchased by Red Bull in 2010 and reintroduced as the Red Bull Ring in 2014.
The deal reflects F1’s commitment to fostering relationships with key venues while recognizing the passionate fanbase that contributes to the atmosphere of the event.
