Alonso Mourns Loss of Longtime Physiotherapist Fabrizio Borra
Fernando Alonso has publicly expressed his sorrow over the passing of his esteemed physiotherapist, Fabrizio Borra, who succumbed to cancer at the age of 64 in Forli, Italy. Alonso honored Borra’s impact on his life and career via social media, stating, "I’ll miss you, Fabri. Thank you for teaching me so much and making me a better person and athlete."
Borra’s relationship with Alonso dates back to 2001, when Alonso made his Formula 1 debut with the Minardi team. He played a crucial role during Alonso’s two world championships with Renault and remained a constant presence throughout Alonso’s stints at various teams, including Ferrari, McLaren, Alpine, and Aston Martin.
In addition to his work with Alonso, Borra was notably involved in the recovery of Michael Schumacher after his serious leg injury at the 1999 British Grand Prix and also supported MotoGP rider Andrea Dovizioso and cyclist Marco Pantani.
Aston Martin’s Struggles Continue
As the 2023 season progresses, Alonso has faced considerable challenges with Aston Martin, entering the sixth race of the season without a single point. Team principal Andy Cowell acknowledged the morale issues within the team, stating, "We are not a happy camp."
When asked about potential upgrades that could improve team performance, Alonso remained non-committal, emphasizing the importance of management’s insight: “They know what is in the pipeline. We support them, but we cannot talk about the technicalities of the car.”
Alonso’s vehicular performance remains a focus, but for now, he continues to push through a challenging season, reflecting both on his loss and the ongoing development of his team’s capabilities.
