Miami Grand Prix: Russell Missing from Press Conference Amid Protest

George Russell of Mercedes finished strong in third place at the Miami Grand Prix but was notably absent from the post-race press conference for “medical reasons.” While he participated in initial interviews and celebrated on the podium, the Mercedes team stated he would not appear for the conference held in the changing room of the Hard Rock Stadium.

In his absence, race winner Oscar Piastri and second-place finisher Lando Norris of McLaren addressed the media alone. Compounding Russell’s situation, Red Bull filed a protest against him for allegedly failing to reduce speed under yellow flags during the race. If the stewards impose a penalty on Russell, it would elevate Max Verstappen from fourth to third position.

Prior to the race, Russell engaged in a light-hearted drivers’ parade with his fellow competitors in life-size LEGO models of F1 cars. Russell humorously commented on a collision with Norris during this event, stating, “I gave him a bit of an injured leg, so I don’t know if he’s going to come and complain at me for something.” He expressed enthusiasm for the LEGO parade, calling it the "best race of the day."

As the outcome regarding Russell’s potential penalty remains uncertain, the motorsports community is awaiting official comment from the stewards.
