Hamilton Struggles with Ferrari Transition in 2025 F1 Season

Lewis Hamilton has faced significant challenges adapting to Ferrari during the 2025 Formula 1 season, following his high-profile switch from Mercedes. Currently sitting seventh in the championship standings, Hamilton trails his teammate Charles Leclerc and has accumulated a notable gap of 90 points to leader Oscar Piastri.

In anticipation of the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, Hamilton reflected on his transitional experience, acknowledging, “I didn’t know how tough it was going to be.” Despite having previously joined McLaren, he admitted, “This is as challenging as it could ever be on all fronts.”

Ferrari entered the 2025 season with expectations of competing for the championship after finishing second in 2024, yet these ambitions have faltered. Hamilton stated, “There’s still a lot of work that needs to be done,” reinforcing the belief that while the team is functioning effectively, they are currently not in a winning position.

Hamilton’s optimistic perspective suggests that the championship is not beyond reach but requires substantial improvement. “Championship? There’s still a long, long way to go,” he remarked, noting the difficulty of overcoming a 100-point deficit at this stage.

The team’s performance could hinge on upcoming upgrades, with minor improvements introduced for the Imola weekend. Significant upgrades are set for the Barcelona Grand Prix in two races, coinciding with a new FIA directive aimed at regulating flexible wing designs. Hamilton expressed uncertainty about the potential impact of these enhancements, stating, “At the moment, I can’t tell you whether we’re going to gain full tenths, half a second, a second by the end of the season.”

Despite current setbacks, Hamilton remains focused on targeted improvements each weekend. He emphasized the necessity of a “positive” and “aggressive” approach, stating, “If every single one of us is able to pull out half a tenth each, then maybe we can just get there.”

As the season progresses, Hamilton’s resilience and strategic mindset will be crucial for Ferrari’s hopes of reclaiming its competitive edge in Formula 1.
