Hamilton Optimistic Despite Struggles in Ferrari Campaign

Lewis Hamilton remains hopeful following a challenging start to the 2025 Formula 1 season with Ferrari. The 40-year-old driver, who made a high-profile switch from Mercedes, currently sits seventh in the championship standings, with only a sprint race victory in Shanghai to his name. His performance in Miami epitomized his season’s inconsistency; although he finished third in the sprint, he qualified 12th and ultimately placed eighth in the main race.

Hamilton commented on his Miami experience, stating, “I generally had a good day… I feel optimistic for the future. I think this car really does have performance. But something’s holding us back at the moment.” He noted a decline in performance since round two in China and stressed the need for improvements.

Charles Leclerc, Hamilton’s teammate, also faces difficulties, sitting fifth in the standings. His Miami weekend was particularly disappointing: he qualified sixth but crashed before the sprint and finished seventh in the race. Leclerc remarked, “Today wasn’t the Sunday we wanted… We need to fix those issues that probably cost us one position, but the other positions are down to the car.”

Looking ahead, both drivers express cautious optimism for the upcoming race in Imola, with Leclerc admitting concerns about the following Monaco event, where he was victorious last year. “I think Imola maybe could be good,” he said. “Unfortunately, I’m really not looking forward to Monaco this year as I don’t think we’ve got a car to be great there.”

As the season progresses, both drivers hope to unlock the potential of the Ferrari car and return to competitive form.
