Austrian Grand Prix Report: Hamilton Shows Resilience Amid Ferrari’s Progress
Spielberg, Austria – Lewis Hamilton showcased a notable performance at the Austrian Grand Prix, securing a fourth-place finish despite ongoing brake concerns. Meanwhile, Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc capitalized on his team’s improvements, clinching a podium spot in third.
Hamilton’s result matches his best finish of the season, previously achieved at the Imola GP. However, the seven-time champion voiced frustration over persistent brake issues that hindered his lap times. "We have brake issues, so I had to manage these brakes pretty early on," Hamilton stated. He described the situation as "like a lottery," indicating a lack of consistency that has plagued his season.
Despite the challenges, Hamilton’s performance reflects incremental progress as he approaches Leclerc’s setup preferences. "Set-up even closer to Charles, yeah," he acknowledged, though he admitted struggling with the oversteer characteristics that suit Leclerc’s driving style better. "I’m still losing massive ground… eight seconds, nine seconds compared to Charles," he candidly assessed.
As Hamilton prepares for his home race at Silverstone, he remains optimistic. "I think we’ve moved forwards. The upgrade was quite small… perhaps it was a bigger result from putting the floor on," he noted. This improvement signals potential for more competitive outings ahead.
Leclerc’s third-place finish, a reflection of Ferrari’s advancements, allows the team to focus on further enhancing their competitive edge. "We’ve been the second fastest this weekend… third and fourth is a real positive," he remarked, emphasizing the need for better race pace.
As the teams head to Silverstone, both Hamilton and Ferrari aim to build on their recent gains, setting the stage for anticipated performances in the upcoming races.
