Miami Grand Prix Report: Hamilton’s Frustrations and Ferrari’s Struggles
Miami, FL – Lewis Hamilton showcased his enduring competitive spirit during the Miami Grand Prix, despite finishing eighth behind Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc. The seven-time world champion expressed frustration over his team’s racing strategy, particularly in light of their failure to contend for a podium finish.
Starting from 12th on hard tires, Hamilton made significant progress but found himself hindered by Leclerc, who was also on track with hard rubber. Over team radio, Hamilton criticized the situation, highlighting a lack of effective teamwork: "I’m just burning up my tyres. Not good teamwork," he expressed, adding sarcastically, "have a tea break while you’re at it."
Clearing the air after the race, Hamilton stated, “It was all PG, at least. I just want to win. I’ve still got that fire in my belly.” He reiterated his commitment to the team and his competitive nature, emphasizing, “I’m not going to apologise for being a fighter.”
Ferrari’s strategy was under scrutiny as team principal Frederic Vasseur noted the challenges of real-time decision-making during races. "When you are behind, you feel you have to swap in the next corner," Vasseur explained, addressing Hamilton’s frustrations. "I had to decide who was fastest on track, taking into account the live conditions."
This Grand Prix marked the first time this season that Ferrari failed to challenge for a podium, with both Hamilton and Leclerc finishing seventh and eighth, respectively. Looking ahead, Hamilton remains optimistic about future upgrades and expected improvements in performance, particularly regarding front wing flexibility.
"I truly believe that when we fix some of the problems we have with the car, we’ll be back in the fight with the Mercedes and the Bulls," Hamilton said, urging for quick adjustments ahead of the next race.
As the teams prepare for upcoming challenges, the focus remains on strategy and collaboration, crucial for enhancing results moving forward.
