Racing Bulls Suffer as Lawson Struggles for Points; Hadjar Shines in F1 Season

Liam Lawson’s recent performances in the 2025 Formula 1 season have been less than impressive, with the Racing Bulls driver yet to score a point after four races. Following a disappointing outing at the Japanese Grand Prix, Lawson reflected on his struggles, stating, “We have no points… to put a full race together could be quite tough.”

In contrast, teammate Isack Hadjar has made a significant impact as a rookie, consistently securing points finishes, including an eighth-place result in Japan. Lawson’s qualifying results reveal a stark contrast, as Hadjar has outqualified him four times out of five attempts, despite Lawson having shown slightly better pace in unsupervised qualifying sessions.

The season’s statistics illustrate Lawson’s challenges: an average grid position of 14.5 compared to Hadjar’s 11, severely limiting his opportunities to capitalize on race situations. Lawson’s misfortunes have included technical setbacks—the loss of DRS in Bahrain and battery issues in Miami—and penalties that have hampered his progression through the field.

At the Japanese Grand Prix, Lawson experienced a difficult day, finishing 17th after dropping positions early in the race, while Hadjar’s performance marked his emergence as a competitive driver in the team. Lawson acknowledged his performance, stating, “Comfort-wise I feel really good in the car… just unfortunately no results to show for it.”

Looking ahead, Lawson emphasized the need for resilience: “Reset, like always. Keep working forward, keep improving things.” His focus remains on refining his approach to avoid collisions and penalties that have derailed his potential.

As the 2025 season unfolds, the Racing Bulls will need to ensure Lawson capitalizes on his pace to join Hadjar in the points standings.
