Red Bull Dismisses Mercedes Speculation Surrounding Verstappen
AUSTRIA, July 2023 – Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner has refuted speculation linking Max Verstappen with a move to Mercedes, labeling it as “a lot of noise.” This comes amid ongoing discussions within Mercedes regarding their driver lineup for 2025, where they have opted for rookie Andrea Kimi Antonelli alongside George Russell, although rumors persist about Verstappen’s potential future with the team.
Horner emphasized the clarity of Verstappen’s contract, which extends until 2028, stating, “Anything said about Max’s future is entirely speculative.” This follows comments from Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff, who indicated a “very little probability” of Verstappen joining Mercedes before 2026.
Russell’s contract is also under scrutiny, as he has not yet received an extension, leading to speculation about interest from Aston Martin. Horner acknowledged Russell’s situation, noting, “I can imagine that George is frustrated he hasn’t been given a contract yet. But that’s between him and his team.”
As the motorsport world turns its attention to upcoming races, the future of these prominent drivers continues to be a topic of significant interest.
