Hulkenberg Secures First F1 Podium at British Grand Prix

Nico Hulkenberg achieved a career milestone by clinching his first Formula 1 podium at the British Grand Prix, finishing third in a race characterized by changeable weather conditions at Silverstone. The Sauber driver ended a long-standing record, having started 238 Grands Prix without a top-three finish.

Hulkenberg executed a precise strategy, timing his first pit stop for intermediate tires perfectly. Starting from the back of the grid, he quickly moved up to fourth before overtaking Lance Stroll of Aston Martin. He then defended against Lewis Hamilton in the final laps, managing his last pit stop effectively.

Reflecting on his performance, Hulkenberg stated, “It was a survival fight for a lot of the race… We just made the right calls, the right tires at the right moment.” He acknowledged the pressure he faced from Hamilton, noting, "I was in denial until probably the last pitstop… it was an intense race but we didn’t crack, no mistakes."

Hulkenberg’s podium finish moves him into ninth place in the drivers’ championship, while Sauber, who finished last in 2024, now sits sixth in the constructors’ standings. “It feels good. It’s been a long time coming… I always knew we have it in us,” Hulkenberg concluded post-race, highlighting the surreal nature of driving from nearly last to the podium.

This notable result comes amid thrilling conditions and fierce competition, showcasing both strategic brilliance and tenacity from the veteran driver.
