Norris Apologizes for Collision with Piastri in Canadian Grand Prix

In a tense conclusion to the Canadian Grand Prix, Lando Norris collided with teammate Oscar Piastri while contending for fourth position, resulting in Norris crashing out of the race. The incident occurred within the final five laps as Norris attempted an inside pass at the hairpin, only for Piastri to regain the position at the final chicane. Following the slipstream battle down the main straight, Norris misjudged his approach to Turn 1, impacting the rear of Piastri’s car.

“Just didn’t expect to pass Oscar on the outside into Turn 1,” Norris explained. “I should never have gone for it; it’s my complete hindsight thing. There was way too much risk, especially on my teammate.” Norris expressed regret, stating he felt he had let down both Piastri and the McLaren team, emphasizing the importance of avoiding contact with fellow drivers.

Acknowledging his mistake, Norris remarked, “I owe him an apology for taking such a risk. No one did anything wrong here—just myself.” Piastri, while appreciative of Norris’ accountability, has not shied away from the understanding that emotions surrounding the incident could have been different.

Despite the disappointment, Norris is determined to move forward. “At the same time, part of moving on is trying to put it behind you and crack on with the next weekend,” he stated. As the team looks towards future races, Norris plans to address the incident with his crew, underscoring the collective responsibilities of the McLaren outfit.
