Sao Paulo Grand Prix Preparations Amid Severe Weather Threat
Ahead of Saturday’s Sprint race at Interlagos, organizers of the Sao Paulo Grand Prix are implementing precautionary measures due to forecasts of severe storms. A cyclone off Brazil’s coast has prompted the National Institute of Meteorology (INMET) to issue warnings for heavy rainfall, strong winds, and hail in São Paulo.
According to INMET, the Brazilian Civil Defense has alerted residents to avoid open areas and seek shelter, with storm conditions expected to peak between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. local time on Saturday. Wind speeds are anticipated to reach between 40-60 mph, necessitating secure preparations in various areas of the circuit to mitigate these risks.
Despite the weather uncertainties, no alterations to the race schedule have been made. The Sprint is currently set to begin at 11 a.m. local time, followed by qualifying at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
It is worth noting that last year’s event experienced similar weather challenges, leading to a postponement of qualifying until early Sunday and an adjustment of the race start time to ease fan access and safety.
As the situation evolves, further updates will be crucial for teams and fans alike as they navigate the complexities presented by the adverse weather conditions.
