Isack Hadjar: Calm Amidst the Storm in Rookie Formula 1 Season
Isack Hadjar, the 20-year-old Racing Bulls driver, has showcased a surprisingly composed demeanor during his rookie season in Formula 1, a stark contrast to his vocal performances in Formula 2. The French-Algerian driver, currently ranked ninth in the championship standings with 21 points, has emerged as the second-most successful rookie this season.
Ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix, Hadjar revealed his strategy for managing his emotions: “I’m still shouting and insulting, but I just don’t press the radio. So no one knows,” he stated during a recent media engagement. He emphasized that while his temperament remains unchanged, his in-cockpit communication has evolved. "Inside the car, I made progress with my thumb, but… out of it, I’m mad at myself. I’ve never been a driver that throws things," he added.
Hadjar’s performance has garnered attention from within the paddock, particularly from Red Bull motorsport advisor Dr. Helmut Marko, who described him as "the most impressive rookie." Marko highlighted Hadjar’s adaptability, noting, “He comes to a circuit which he doesn’t know, and within three laps, he is competitive," and praised his natural ability to qualify in the top ten.
As the season progresses, Hadjar’s blend of skill and composure continues to make him a driver to watch, not just for his performance metrics but for his noteworthy character off the track.
