Austrian Grand Prix Summary: Ferrari Strong, Hamilton Questions Strategy
Ferrari secured a solid 3-4 finish at the Austrian Grand Prix, with Charles Leclerc leading the charge in third place and Lewis Hamilton closely following in fourth. Despite this strong outcome, Hamilton voiced concerns about the team’s pit strategy during the race, questioning the decision to pit him with 20 laps remaining.
Ferrari’s deputy team chief, Jerome d’Ambrosio, who stepped in for Fred Vasseur, defended the team’s choices. "We aimed for an optimal strategy," d’Ambrosio stated, emphasizing that the decision was made with the race’s dynamics in mind. "The McLarens were clearly ahead, and we were situated between them, so a standard optimal strategy made the most sense."
Hamilton expressed frustration over his pit call during the race, indicating that he felt his tires were still viable: "My tyres are okay. Can I extend? How many more laps left?" Adami, his race engineer, confirmed the timeline but ultimately fulfilled the team’s strategy, which Hamilton later acknowledged was correct: "Honestly, the pace wasn’t looking great, but I felt like I could keep going… ultimately, I think it’s the right decision."
This event reaffirms Ferrari’s competitive stance as they continue to develop their strategy in the fast-paced environment of Formula 1.
