Stroll Pulls Out of Spanish Grand Prix Due to Hand Injury
Aston Martin F1 driver Lance Stroll will miss the Spanish Grand Prix due to ongoing pain in his right hand and wrist, stemming from injuries sustained earlier this season. Stroll had qualified 14th on Saturday but will not race as he prepares for surgery to address the issue.
The team confirmed that the discomfort is related to a hand fracture incurred in a cycling accident prior to the 2023 season. “Over the course of the past six weeks, Lance has been experiencing pain in his hand and wrist, which his medical consultant believes relates to the procedure he underwent in 2023,” Aston Martin stated.
Stroll’s injuries, including fractures in both wrists and a broken toe, occurred during a training ride in Malaga just before the Bahrain pre-season test. Although he sat out the testing phase, he remarkably recovered to compete in the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix, finishing sixth despite ongoing discomfort.
This marks a notable setback as Stroll will now miss his second race due to the same injury. It remains uncertain whether he will be fit to return for the Canadian Grand Prix scheduled for June 13. With Stroll sidelined, Aston Martin will field only Fernando Alonso’s car, reducing the starting grid to 19 competitors for the Spanish Grand Prix.
