Singapore Grand Prix Preview: Insights and Expectations for the 2024 Race
The Singapore Grand Prix, a hallmark of the Formula 1 calendar since 2008, continues to challenge drivers with its unique night race format and street circuit layout. This year’s event is set to take place on October 5, featuring a 62-lap race covering 190.3 miles at the Marina Bay Circuit.
Key Highlights:
- 2024 Pole Time: 1m29.525s by Lando Norris (McLaren-Mercedes)
- Previous Winner: Lando Norris, McLaren-Mercedes
- Pirelli Tire Allotment: The dry weather compounds remain unchanged, with the C3 as Hard, C4 as Medium, and C5 as Soft.
Driver Insights:
Pierre Gasly, who secured a top-six finish for Alpine in 2023, highlighted the circuit’s complexities, noting, “Singapore is definitely right up there in terms of trickiness and challenge… it’s by night, and the combination of high-speed corners and bumpy streets increases the physical and mental demands on drivers.”
Gasly emphasized the importance of precision throughout the circuit. “There’s no standout area; the entire first section influences subsequent corners. The tricky section from Turn 10, including the chicane over the bridge to the hairpin, presents significant challenges,” he remarked.
He also discussed the delicate balance teams must strike in car setup between ride comfort and aerodynamic grip. “Finding that fine line is essential,” Gasly added, warning that missteps can lead to compromised performance.
