British Grand Prix Final Practice Report

Charles Leclerc secured the fastest time in the final practice session for the British Grand Prix, clocking in at 1:25.498. The session was interrupted by a red flag with less than ten minutes remaining due to debris from a Haas, which ultimately hampered Lewis Hamilton’s potential to challenge for the top spot.

Leclerc’s performance positioned him at the forefront of a competitive field, with Oscar Piastri of McLaren and Max Verstappen from Red Bull Racing closely trailing—just 0.068 seconds and 0.087 seconds behind, respectively. Verstappen reported brake issues during the session, characterizing the problem as "like a handbrake."

The top four competitors were rounded out by Lando Norris, who finished just 0.108 seconds off Leclerc’s pace. Hamilton showed promise early, setting the fastest first sector and a personal best in the middle segment, but an error at Club during his out lap hindered his final time.

Post-red flag, Hamilton re-entered but was again affected when Gabriel Bortoleto lost control and brought out another red flag, leaving Hamilton in an uncharacteristic 11th place—0.834 seconds back from the leader.

Key highlights included:

  • Yuki Tsunoda finished fifth, 0.606 seconds off the pace.
  • Oliver Bearman, caught in a spin and crash entering the pit lane, ended up sixth.
  • Alex Albon and George Russell secured seventh and eighth, with Russell expressing optimism for qualifying after losing time due to a lockup.
  • Isack Hadjar and Liam Lawson completed the top ten, the latter receiving a black and white flag for erratic driving.

Notable performance gaps were seen from Hamilton, Sainz, Ocon, and Antonelli, all within one second of Leclerc, while Nico Hulkenberg finished 15th, trailing by over a second. Aston Martin struggled, with both Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll finishing down the order in 17th and 19th.

This session sets the stage for an exciting qualifying ahead, with multiple drivers appearing capable of challenging Leclerc’s benchmark.
