Hamilton Set to Start Fifth at British GP After Qualifying Error
Lewis Hamilton will start from fifth position at the British Grand Prix following a costly error at Turn 16 during qualifying. The nine-time Silverstone winner expressed frustration over understeer that likely cost him a chance at the front row.
Ferrari showed early pace this weekend, building on an improved performance in Austria, but it was Red Bull’s Max Verstappen who claimed pole position, outpacing both Hamilton and his McLaren rivals. Hamilton completed Q2 with a convincing run, only to falter with understeer on his final lap.
“Pretty decent qualifying. I was closer to second on the grid but had a bit of understeer in Turn 16, which cost me around a tenth,” Hamilton commented, emphasizing his team’s progress and the effectiveness of recent upgrades.
Hamilton highlighted the positive dynamics with his engineering team and his growing comfort with the car’s setup. “My engineer and I have been really gelling a lot better in terms of how we set the car up,” he noted.
With his family in attendance and a strong fan base rallying behind him, Hamilton acknowledged the challenge ahead of facing competitors like the McLarens and Red Bulls. “I think it will be very, very hard to beat them, but I’ll give absolutely everything tomorrow. With this amazing crowd, who knows?”
As the race approaches, Hamilton remains optimistic about his chances to leverage the home crowd’s support despite the hurdles he faces on race day.
