Hamilton Addresses Team Radio Comments Following Miami GP
In a spirited race at the Miami Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton clarified comments made over team radio regarding a potential switch with Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc. During the race, Hamilton voiced concerns that his team should prioritize pace, suggesting, "people might not like them," later attributing the remarks to sarcasm.
Hamilton expressed frustration with being stuck behind Leclerc while on medium tires, believing he had the pace to challenge Andrea Kimi Antonelli if Ferrari had acted sooner. Although Hamilton’s pace improved after the switch, he ultimately fell short in overtaking.
"I generally enjoyed the race… I felt the car really come alive," Hamilton remarked, despite starting from 12th position. He emphasized that overtaking was challenging and that he lost crucial time behind Leclerc, calling for quicker decision-making from the team.
"I didn’t think the decision came quick enough," he stated. "I think we could do better." Hamilton acknowledged Ferrari’s difficult task in managing both drivers fairly but stressed the need to act on the faster car.
Post-race, Hamilton’s comments prompted discussions with team principal Fred Vasseur. He explained, "You’ve got to understand that we’re under a huge amount of pressure," adding, "just make a decision!"
In summary, Hamilton’s comments reflect a desire for improved communication and responsiveness from the team, as he looks to harness the car’s potential in the competitive field of Formula 1.
