Hamilton’s Transition to Ferrari: Analysis and Insights

Lewis Hamilton, the 2009 Formula 1 World Champion, is experiencing a challenging first season with Ferrari after a successful 12-year tenure at Mercedes. Having joined the Scuderia at the start of 2025, Hamilton has faced mounting difficulties amid high expectations following his six championship wins with Mercedes.

As of the British Grand Prix, Hamilton has secured only one significant result, a sprint race victory in China, but faced a subsequent disqualification from the main event. His best finish so far is fourth place at Silverstone, prompting concern from former drivers Jenson Button and David Coulthard regarding his adaptation to the new team.

Coulthard remarked, “Silverstone felt more comfortable. Up until that point, it’s felt uncomfortable watching Lewis; he hasn’t looked as quick as Charles [Leclerc].” He suggested that Hamilton may have shown improvement at Silverstone, but questioned if that performance could be replicated consistently.

Button, who was Hamilton’s teammate at McLaren, emphasized the challenges of transitioning to a non-British team. “It’s always difficult changing teams, especially to one that’s not a British team,” he explained. “Lewis’s teammate is embedded within the Italian environment, making adaptation even harder.”

Despite these challenges, Hamilton remains confident. With 103 points, he currently sits sixth in the drivers’ standings, behind teammate Leclerc with 119 points. Button concluded, “If anyone can be competitive in that car, it’s Lewis. It’s a matter of time, but I’m sure it’s getting a little frustrating not maximizing the car’s potential.”

As the season progresses, Hamilton’s performance will be closely monitored as he continues to navigate the complexities of his new role with Ferrari.
