Dunne Impresses with Strong FP1 Performance for McLaren

McLaren junior driver Alex Dunne made a notable debut in Friday’s FP1 session, finishing fourth on the timesheets, a significant achievement for the 18-year-old Irishman.

Reflecting on the experience, Dunne acknowledged the unique challenge he faced when transitioning back to his F2 car, where he secured a seventh-place grid position—just 0.2 seconds shy of pole. "The step up is definitely much easier than it was to step back down," he commented, highlighting the differences in driving styles and the superior grip of the Formula 1 car.

Dunne expressed gratitude towards McLaren, particularly recalling the moment he queued behind Lewis Hamilton at the pit lane exit. "That was pretty cool. It was very special to me," he said, underlining the significance of the occasion in his budding career.

This debut underscores Dunne’s promising potential, aligning with McLaren’s strategic focus on developing young talent within their program.
