Albon Shines in Miami Grand Prix with Fifth Place Finish

In a standout performance at the Miami Grand Prix, Alex Albon secured a commendable fifth place, signaling a notable rise in form for the Williams Racing team. This result marked another double points finish, with teammate Carlos Sainz crossing the line in ninth, collectively earning the team 12 points.

Albon’s current standing in the drivers’ championship is eighth, with a total of 30 points, reflecting a significant improvement as Williams has already surpassed its 2024 point tally within the early stages of the 2025 season.

Commenting on Albon’s performance, former Formula 1 driver and Sky Sports analyst Martin Brundle noted, “Fifth would fall to Alex Albon with another excellent and feisty race. Williams were the fourth fastest team on the day and had indeed looked much like that all weekend.” Brundle also highlighted that a technicality during the Safety Car phase in the Sprint could have allowed Albon to score additional points.

Teammate Carlos Sainz faced challenges throughout the race, including damage from first-lap contact with Albon. He struggled with Virtual Safety Car (VSC) pit stop timing, which put him behind the two Ferraris and resulted in an ambitious maneuver that led to contact with Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari. The incident was deemed "avoidable contact," with no further action taken against either driver.

Post-race, Albon expressed satisfaction with the FW47’s performance, citing engine temperature issues but overall good pace. “Honestly, we had really good pace, I was quite comfortable in my position. I would even argue George [Russell] got a little lucky with the VSC; otherwise, a P4 was possible today,” Albon stated.

With this performance, Williams continues to demonstrate progress in their competitive standings. The next challenge awaits as the F1 calendar moves to Imola for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix on May 16-18.
