Mercedes Retains Russell and Antonelli for 2026 F1 Season

Mercedes has confirmed its driver line-up for the 2026 Formula 1 season, retaining George Russell and rookie Kimi Antonelli. The announcement, made on Wednesday, indicates a commitment to continuity as the team prepares for significant regulatory changes in the sport.

Team principal Toto Wolff emphasized that the decision to retain both drivers had been anticipated. “Confirming our driver line-up was always just a matter of when, not if,” Wolff said. “George and Kimi have proved a strong pairing, and we’re excited to continue our journey together.”

Russell’s performance this season has been commendable, with two race wins, including the latest victory in Singapore, placing him fourth in the drivers’ championship. The British driver, who has been with Mercedes since 2017, expressed enthusiasm about the future: “Next year will mark my 10th [year] with Mercedes…I can’t wait to see what lies ahead, particularly as we embark on one of the largest regulation changes in the sport’s history.”

Antonelli, in his inaugural season, has secured one podium and consistently finished in the top five in recent races. “I’m super excited to be continuing with the team,” he stated. He acknowledged the challenges of his rookie year while expressing gratitude for Mercedes’ support.

With six races remaining in the current season, both drivers voiced a commitment to securing second place in the constructors’ championship before shifting focus to the future.
