Hulkenberg Achieves Maiden Podium Finish at British GP
Nico Hulkenberg secured his first podium finish in Formula 1 during the British Grand Prix, driving from 19th on the grid to secure third place after 239 race starts. The event marked a significant achievement for the Sauber team and was celebrated with champagne gifts from Mercedes and Aston Martin.
Hulkenberg, who also received the Driver of the Day accolade, displayed impressive skill in navigating a challenging race, especially with changing track conditions. “We made the right calls today, especially stopping later for slicks — that decision was crucial,” he noted. “Starting from last and finishing on the podium honestly feels surreal.”
The low-grip conditions generated a dynamic race strategy that paid off for Sauber, moving the team into sixth place in the Constructors’ Championship, just 18 points behind Williams. Hulkenberg is now ninth in the Drivers’ standings with 37 points.
This race win resonated well within the paddock, with fellow drivers like Max Verstappen and Esteban Ocon extending their congratulations via social media, recognizing Hulkenberg’s hard-fought success.
"This was such a special day for the team and for me personally,” he reflected. “It’s been a great team effort, and now we can enjoy this moment before focusing on the second half of the season.”
